Who’s the Proofreader/Copyeditor?

Hi there! Thanks for your interest. My name is Scharla and I live in Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada with my husband and children. We enjoy outdoor adventures and living between two great lakes with plenty of green space allows some room to roam. Because of this extraordinary year we’re having, we switched gears and are taking some uncommon roads. It has also reunited me with an old love – the written word.

There’s something to be said about stretching the mind beyond the current commonly used vocabulary, and one day I’ll know what that is. 🧐

Credentials

I left a career in hospitality management to raise my children and to support my husband in his business endeavours. I work with him as the office administrator. I also work in a little gift shop one day a week. I’ve held other positions prior to married-life-with-children such as home inspecting, tax preparation, call centre customer service and various positions at a local wood working factory (I’m sure there have been more). I actually started in hospitality as night audit. All provided their own unique sets of documents to scrutinize and ensure they were as well produced.

I started writing again this year and was searching for more puzzle pieces. So, I took a course in Proofreading this past summer. It turned out I had actually been proofreading and copyediting for friends, family, work and myself for at least fifteen years without realizing I was doing so. However, I gained new insights with this course that polished my skills and I am grateful for it.

I started my proofreading business because I realized how important it is to have your work proofread and I wanted to help writers in their process. Having your voice and your message expressed through a well written work really makes the difference to any reader. You also don’t have to be an author to be a writer. I have proofread/edited training materials, websites, blog posts, professional communications, contracts and advertising/marketing materials over the years.

Your style and voice in your work is what makes it uniquely your message. I seek to ensure that it remains in your work through the proofreading and copyediting process and that it is your voice that is found when it is read. You will find that I am thorough in my work as I have a history of looking at details.

I look forward to working with you on your next project.

Cheers!
