Proofreading
Proofreading is the last step before publishing. It’s the last chance to catch any errors before clicking publish or push to print. It’s a surface check that corrects grammar, spelling, punctuation, typography and formatting. Obvious facts are checked for accuracy. Proofreaders follow a style guide (if there’s one available) and maintains consistency.

Copyediting
Copyediting is the process of checking for mistakes, inconsistencies and factual errors. It improves readability by changing wording to correct syntax of any copy (your written work) and prepares it for publishing. Copyediting also follows a style guide, maintains one or creates one if necessary for consistency. Queries are also made during the process to address any issues or concerns.
Your text will be checked for:
- Typos
- Basic grammar
- Punctuation
- Non-verbal dialogue tags
- Style consistency
- Content inconsistencies
- Basic facts (dates, geography, accuracy of timeline)
- Continuity or tracking problems (will be flagged)
- Plot holes (will be flagged)
- Potential libel
- Potential copyright issues
- Anachronisms (will be flagged)
- Verbal and content repetition (solutions will be offered)
- Ambiguous vocabulary (solutions will be offered)
- Awkward phrasing (solutions will be offered)
- Jargon will be flagged if the meaning is obscure
- Heavy fact-checking for information accuracy
- Other developmental changes
I will create a style guide for you for future reference if you do not have one.
$40 – $45 Hourly (Rates in CAD)
Editing fees are calculated based on your individual project needs (a light or heavy edit and the time needed to complete the edit). After I look at your project and what you’d like to achieve, we can work out a rate, time frame and any other details that are acceptable for us both.
A final proofread (revision) when all the suggested changes and edits have been made by the writer is included in my quotes. This is complementary as long as no major rewrites have been made.
I require a 50% down-payment on your project and the remaining balance at the time of completion (in most cases). I currently accept payments through PayPal and e-mail money transfers. I will start to work on your project once the down-payment is received.
