The New Weird Science…and Technology

It’s interesting to see how things in the digital landscape has changed after a decade of absence (meaning not playing with website development in that length of time). It all feels new to me and also to John and Leanna. Obviously for them as this is all new.

We went through the process of looking at templates on WP and choosing a few that we liked. Then, we tried to work with the chosen template in beta to figure out what it was going to look like once we published. We had a lot of giggles and could not figure out how to remove the one word that was stuck in the middle of our top banner photo (HOME). After three days of searching for a way to remove it collectively, we decided to search for a new template and settled on this one. How does it look? Seriously, please let us know…kindly.

We then did the easy-button push-launch thing, added the SSL thingie and voila! We’re live. More giggles ensued and their imaginations ran on. As did the questions. What do we do next? How do we add pictures? How do we add videos? It’s incredible to witness their enthusiasm and their curiosity at the same time trying to help them organize their thoughts so we can create a plan instead of a willy-nilly approach (which does sometimes work).

Once we do figure out how to add photos, I hope our readers will enjoy coming back to see them. We take a lot of photos during our explorations. I think it’ll be good way for John and Leanna to recount what they learn and reflect on it too. Who knows, maybe we’ll willy-nilly an episode or two going forward.

Let the adventures begin!

It’s September 2020 amidst a pandemic. We decided to change course a bit this summer and carve our own path going forward. Instead of the new normal being put in front of the masses to maneuver, as a family, we chose to home school our kids and allow them a bit of freedom and peace of mind. I’m grateful that we can do this.

A simple family of four living in a small city in a big country. We don’t live an extravagant life but we choose to live. We work from home. We school from home. We adventure anywhere.

There will be mundane field trips into the ordinary yet our kids will learn how the world works, what it has to offer and how or where we can make it better. But this is not all that there will be. This is also an adventure into self and each other. There are no expectations that everything will go smoothly. It’s a given tempers will flare and tears will fall but squeezes and kisses will always be found.

Why did I choose to start this blog? It’s been sitting in the back of my head for the better part of the past five years. Because I still believe in written words. Because, I’m discovering I’m technically challenged. Do I want to remedy that? I don’t know yet. There is something to be said about ignorance and bliss in technology. An old song comes to mind about watching your kids grow and learning more than self. Aside from my rant, it’s a place to write about our adventures, what we’ll discover and maybe perhaps, anyone who reads this can learn from it too.
